Anne James

Anne lives on the outskirts of a little village in the North Tyne Valley in Northumberland, where she has her studio. Having trained as a scientist, she took the plunge to change careers, and absolutely loves it.
Anne’s ceramics are inspired by textures and the natural world. She enjoys the challenge of constructing each piece. Childhood holidays on the Mull of Kintyre gave her a passion for collecting pebbles and sea glass which are often incorporated into her work. During holidays abroad she collected special objects which she uses to texture her pieces. Using wallpapers from her childhood home is a favourite way of creating a special piece. She loves to build up layers of texture, then use multiple glazes to decorate the object. She works mainly in porcelain, but also in stoneware for larger pieces.
