Kate Millbank - Tantallon Hare

The Tantallon Hare print by East Lothian artist Kate, is a celebration of spring along the East Lothian coast. Featuring a beautiful hare leaping across the print with views of Tantallon Castle and Bass Rock in the back ground. 

For this print she has has combined the graphic qualities and detailed marks of lino printing with a more fluid hand painted background. The two techniques bring a sense of vitality and freedom to the print which help to convey the movement of the hare as you see him racing across the fields. The limited colour palette of orange, green and icy blue, reflect the local landscape, and the use of orange in particular has been inspired by the deep terracotta hue of the castle and the earth of surrounding fields .
