Susan Hopkin
Susan lives in the East Lothian coastal town of North Berwick and takes her inspiration from long beach walks with her dog. Through this daily ritual, she can observe the seasons as they slide into each other; as the colours change from the singing palette of summer through to the monochrome of winter. Her work is made in multiple layers, with a piece taking days or weeks to finish. Through the use of charcoal pencil, oil pastel, acrylic paint and gesso, layer upon layer is built up and then scored back to reveal the flickers of colour hidden below. She aims to convey some of that seasonal atmosphere through her work.
